This process is a continuous intake inventory to create and maintain an inventory for future opportunities. When you apply to an inventory you are submitting only one job application for the opportunity to be considered for various positions. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment. The criteria selected for assessment will be based on the needs of the position/positions to be staffed.

Candidates must meet all of the essential qualifications noted on this poster to be appointed to a position. Depending on the requirements of the position(s) being staffed, for current or future vacancies, candidates may be appointed to a position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the following: additional qualifications, operational requirements and/or organizational needs; however, we strongly encourage you to demonstrate how you meet the additional qualifications on your application as meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed Depending on the needs of the organization, candidates may also be randomly selected from the inventory for assessment purposes.

The inventory will be updated every 90 days. Duties

As a Business Officer, you will be challenged to connect with people, build relationships, and develop creative approaches to addressing challenges or opportunities related to economic development in the West. Successful candidates will work in a team environment to provide planning, development, implementation and assessment of programs, in support of the WD mandate to enhance economic development. As a Business Officer you may:
• Participate in the development, implementation and performance assessment of programs or projects;
• Analyze, audit and recommend actions regarding payment of contributions, receivables, write-offs or compromise settlement on program funding and projects;
• Carry out research and/or intelligence on emerging social, political, environmental and economic development issues as part of a policy, program or project team;
• Advise and make recommendations to Managers on implications for WD's programs and services;
• Consult with key partners from economic, social and environmental, portfolios, other federal departments and other governments on partnerships and economic development program/policy issues of mutual concern;
• Draft and/or coordinate briefings, reports, correspondence and related materials in support of policy, program, project and issue management;
• Develop terms of reference for contracts, reviews submissions for requests for proposals and make recommendations.

Please note: as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are primarily working remotely for the time being. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
• Completion of a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Supporting the evaluation of economic development or related project proposals, applications for funding or business plans;
• Monitoring progress against agreements throughout the lifecycle of a project;
• Maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance economic development initiatives or projects;
• Providing strategic advice and recommendations to management including assisting in the preparation of briefing notes.

Knowledge:
• How Western Economic Diversification (WD) supports economic development/diversification in Western Canada; and
• Key economic and business trends influencing the western Canadian economy

Competencies:
• Communication (Oral and Written);
• Demonstrating integrity & respect;
• Showing initiative and being action-oriented;
• Working effectively with others; and
• Strategic thinking.

Education:
• A recognized professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA, CGA)

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience in working on initiatives that support underrepresented groups.
• Delivering or developing initiatives through Grants and Contributions programs
• Monitoring the compliance of funding agreements, including reporting requirements.
• Accounting and/or financial analysis.
• Conducting research, analyzing information, and summarizing key findings in one or more of the following areas:
o Advanced Manufacturing
o Agri-food
o Health Bio-Sciences
o Clean Technology
o Digital Industries
o Primary Industries
o Aerospace
• Depth, breadth and scope of experience in any one or combination of the experience requirements
