Duties

The successful candidate will integrate bird monitoring data from multiple, broad-scale observational monitoring programs, including but not limited to the North American Breeding Bird Survey and eBird to develop improved models of bird density. The candidate will also develop statistical models to account for variations in detectability of birds during observational surveys, accounting for variations in field protocols and survey conditions.

Work environment

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is a science-based organization that conducts scientific research to help Canadians make informed decisions. The Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) is responsible for monitoring the status and trends of many wildlife populations, including migratory birds and species at risk. The student will be required to collaborate with biostatisticians and biologists within ECCC, as well as professors and students at Carleton University to ensure the research balances academic rigor with practical applicability to the responsibilities of ECCC and the CWS.
