RAP - graduate student - Research Affiliate Program

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada - Science and Technology Branch
Due to covid site access restrictions to AAFC facilities, the RAP student will operate remotely from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon campus.
The work term will be from January 6, 2021 to March 30, 2024. It is expected that the student will work 17 hours per week.
$22.04 to $27.73 per hour (Annual stipend of $25,000 which includes rate of pay. Salary will be determined by the student’s education and relevant experience.)

Duties

The MSc student will participate in the planning of experiments to answer research hypothesis. Under the supervision of Drs. Raju Soolanayakanahally and Karen Tanino, s/he will be responsible for executing the study including a wide variety of activities (growing plants in greenhouse and field, collecting leaf tissue sampling for isotope analysis and associating the results with growth physiology and biomass yields) along with writing scientific manuscripts. The student will present the findings at a national conference/meeting.

Work environment

The work involves field, greenhouse experiments and labs work at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. All student thesis meeting will take virtual via zoom/MS Teams platforms.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

The Student must be currently enrolled or will be enrolled by date of appointment in a Master’s Program at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon with a specialization: Plant Sciences, Environment and Natural Resources or a related field AND possess a Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized university in the area of plant science, biology, natural sciences.

Degree equivalency

Experience growing plants either in greenhouse or field settings.
