The Chief, Health Services’ main tasks consist of:
Organizing, coordinating and evaluating the clinical physical and mental health services;
Orchestrate medical and paramedic services offered to clients, including medical services, dental, optometrist, physiotherapy, etc.;
Ensure and maintain high quality health services and professional services offered to inmates under federal jurisdiction;
Align health services with internal partners (Correctional operations, Case management…) and external partners (hospitals, clinics, etc.).
You will report to the Manager, Health Care and Rehabilitation Programs and Services (WP-06) and will work collaboratively on files including Human Resources, finance, supplies as well as operational activities for identified sectors. You will be required to maintain a collaborative approach in order to meet organizational expectations and to adjust accordingly.
CSC nurses, client care attendants and clinicians (supervised by the Chief, Health Services) provide a variety of services to inmates. Nurses participate in different activities: evaluations, physical and mental health follow-ups and treatment, create awareness and education to inmates affected by infectious diseases about healthy lifestyles and treatments pertaining to overall health.
In each of our Penal Institutions, you can find a Health Care Centre comprised of a multidisciplinary team of professionals composed of Client Care Attendants, Auxiliary Nurses, Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, Psychoeducators, Mental Health Workers, Physicians, Psychiatrists, Health Managers and other Clinicians.
Under the supervision of the Chief, Health Services, nursing staff are the primary Health Care providers to the inmate population and work in a Clinic within the Institutions.
In addition, also under the supervision of the Chief, Health Services, nursing personnel provide all services and programs offered in the community and adapted to all types of patients such as:
Infectious disease (Hepatitis, HIV, …)
Infection Prevention and Control
Harm Reduction
Older Persons in Custody
Palliative care
Chronic Diseases
Pain Management
Medical assistance in dying
Treatment – opiate dependence;
Discharge planning;
Education on drug therapy and other overall health;
Emergency services;
Care of wounds;
Vaccination, etc.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or college with an acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE
Recent and significant* experience in one or more of the following areas: psychiatric, medical-surgical, emergency or other related fields.
*Recent and significant experience is normally gained over 3 consecutive years within the last 5 years.
EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Relevant additional certifications.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in program management such as needs assessment, planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluation.
Experience in coordinating Health and/or Training Programs.
Experience in dealing with Aboriginal communities.
Experience in dealing with community-based health organizations, such as public health or mental health.
Experience in planning, developing, coordinating and supporting the implementation of comprehensive formal discharge/post release plans for individuals with complex medical problems.
Experience working in a correctional environment.

KNOWLEDGE

Medical Clearance through Health Canada or alternatives designated by Health Canada.
Valid CPR certificate with AED for health professional.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse in the Province of Work, with no conditions or restrictions.
