Duties

Security Risk Investigator - Job Summary:
• reviewing and analyzing contents of security files (indices checks, credit report, pre-questionnaires, applicant forms and documents, etc);
• conducting detailed security/reliability interviews for applicants and employees;
• conducting thorough security investigations for applicants and employees;
• preparing comprehensive and detailed security reports/recommendations;
• investigating instances of security breach; security violation; Threats or Acts of violence and Malicious Code

Departmental Security Section – RISK Unit: Conducts in depth security reviews for employment applicants (all categories) where background, employment or character checks have revealed adverse information. The unit also conducts security reviews relative to internal Code of Conduct files or other Review for Cause processes for current RCMP employees, contractors and volunteers.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff four full-time indeterminate positions. A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies (including similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis, at full or part time hours).

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Position Locations: 2 in Edmonton and 2 in Regina.

Degree equivalency

Recent and significant* experience conducting police investigations including interviews or Recent and significant* experience conducting personnel security investigations,** including interviews.
*Recent and significant experience is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately 5 years within the past 10 years.
**Personnel security investigations are defined as “Inquiry into the activities of an individual, designed to develop pertinent information pertaining to trustworthiness and suitability for a position of trust as related to loyalty, character, emotional stability, and reliability”

Recent and significant* experience as an operational police officer or similar skills and abilities gained in a law enforcement environment or by way of experience in human resources investigations**
*Recent and significant experience is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately 5 years within the past 10 years.
**Human resources investigations may encompass one or all of the following categories: personnel/organizational security, discipline/workplace harassment or character/background investigations.

Recent and significant* experience organizing complex investigative material and drafting investigation and/or analytical reports.
*Recent and significant experience is defined as experience associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which could normally be acquired over a period of approximately 5 years within the past 10 years.

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
