Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff two permanent vacancies (one in the Comox Valley Detachment and one in the North Cowichan/Duncan Detachment).

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future permanent or temporary vacancies in similar or lower-level positions (including on a casual or acting basis, and, at full or part time hours) within the Island District. Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of one year and may be extended.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Recent* and significant** experience in supervising a team of approximately 4 to 6 employees, including performance management and training.
Recent* and significant** experience in managing a budget.
Recent* and significant** experience in coordinating and analyzing data, preparing reports, and making recommendations to senior management.
Experience in providing guidance to colleagues and internal and external clients.

* “Recent” means experience gained within approximately the last 36 months.
** “Significant” means a depth and breadth of experience normally associated with performance of duties on a continual basis over a period of approximately 12 months.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Successful completion of post-secondary courses with a specialization related to supervision or management.

Degree equivalency

Recent* and significant** experience in supervising a medium size team (approximately 8 or more employees), including performance management and training.
Experience with building and property management.
Recent* experience using PRIME, CPIC, and TEAM GUI.

* “Recent” means experience gained within approximately the last 36 months.
** “Significant” means a depth and breadth of experience normally associated with performance of duties on a continual basis over a period of approximately 12 months.

The successful applicant may be eligible for the Isolated Post Allowance and related benefits.

Please note that candidates (including persons employed in the Public Service) will not be considered to be in travel status or on government business and travel costs will not be reimbursed. Consequently, candidates will be responsible for travel costs.

If a qualified candidate has been selected and appointed on an indeterminate basis from the established pool, they will be removed from the pool. If a candidate is selected for a specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) appointment, they will remain in the pool for future offers.

Experience qualifications will be assessed upon application. Further confirmation or assessment may be conducted through reference checks.

Any information provided by a candidate through their application or assessment that is deemed to be incorrect or fraudulent will be eliminated from further consideration.

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
