Assessment accommodation

Duties

From the library reception desk, answer requests for basic and first line information; help clients find the documents they are looking for by using and showing the library resources; provide general information to clients on the library services, policies and procedures; and offer technical support to the users of the collaboration room and equipment of the library (3D printer, photocopier, screen, etc.).

Provide and coordinate acquisition services and interlibrary loans, including verification of bibliographic data; find, choose and order publications; communicate with various suppliers or libraries; track orders; check the goods received; and update the purchase and transactions sheets.

Provide and coordinate documents circulation services, including the registration of clients; carry out of the daily transactions like returns, loans, renewals, reservations, and recalls; and file documents on the shelves using the classification systems in use.

Coordinate and manage the library's serials collection, including carry out subscriptions, renewals, claims and cancellations with various suppliers; record the new serial issues in the library system; and manage the routing lists of serials.

Catalogue, classify, and index selected documents using specialized tools and in accordance with the established policies, procedures and standards in order to allow efficient and fast retrieval of the documents in the collection.

EDUCATION:
• College degree diploma in Library Technologies or successful completion of a minimum two-year library technician program from a recognized post-secondary institution.

EXPERIENCE:
• Significant* and recent** experience in providing library services.
• Experience providing customer services.

*Significant: is defined as experience gained in formal employment or as part of a student program internship.
**Recent: is defined as a breadth of experience normally found in someone who has been working in a library for at least a period of 6 months over the last 2 years.

• Knowledge of the activities, principles and practices of libraries (for example: acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation, and general reference).

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
• One year working experience in a library as a Library Technician.
• Work experience as a Library Technician in a special or scientific library.
• Work experience in using a major integrated library system (ILS), preferably SirsiDynix’ Symphony.
• Experience in preparing and giving library training (written material and presentations).
