DREDGING OPERATIONS OFFICER (STREAM 1)
Reviews and establishes an annual program of bathymetric surveys required in regional waterways (including the survey to determine the state of the St. Lawrence River) and issues associated navigational warnings to inform boaters of obstacles to navigation.
Plans and develops an annual regional program to monitor various types of contracted dredging work.
Prepares plans and cost estimates for contracted dredging work in accordance with technical and environmental requirements, and orders services from Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).
Coordinates, monitors and conducts quality control of contracted dredging services with Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) bathymetric survey project managers, the PSPC contract administrator and contractors.
Analyze and approve various bathymetric plans and volumes of materials to be dredged and paid for; approve dredging in phases and recommend payment.
Acts as a dredging advisor to sector leads, PSPC representatives and contractors; leads meetings and working groups; conducts various analyses and special case studies; formulates advice and recommendations; represents and defends the interests of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) in relation to surveys carried out, dredging volumes, timelines, amounts paid and operating methods, in the resolution of disputes, which are frequent.
PROJECT OFFICER, HYDROGRAPHIC DATA PROCESSING (STREAM 2)
Processes, quality controls and manages hydrographic data and develops plans based on these data to ensure the safety of boaters (by notifying them of the presence of shoals) and to ensure that maintenance dredging is carried out, primarily in the St. Lawrence River Seaway (between Île aux Coudres and Montreal) and the Great Lakes connecting channels.
Gathers, analyzes, categorizes, processes and disseminates bathymetric data properly in the form of statistics, weekly and monthly progress reports, and final reports.
Assesses the volumes of dredged materials, participates in the development and implementation of standards of operation and levels of services offered by the division and participates in the development and launch of new hydrographic data processing and management software that meets the division’s very specific needs.
Visits the sounding vessels to improve processes for collecting, sharing and processing hydrographic data.
The immediate need is to fill the positions of Dredging Operations Officer and Project Officer, Hydrographic Data Processing, on an indeterminate basis.
A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions within the CCG that have various tenures as well as varying security clearance requirements and linguistic profiles.
This process may also be used to staff similar positions within Public Services and Procurement Canada.

EDUCATION
Post-secondary degree or diploma specializing in civil engineering, geomatics or a related field, or a combination of training and experience relevant to the position being staffed.
EXPERIENCE
ALL STREAMS
- Significant experience* in developing plans for marine work, geomatics, hydrographic surveys or mapping, involving the use of various tools in these fields.
- Experience preparing project management documents, e.g. statements of work, requests for proposals, service agreements and submissions of deliverables.
*Significant experience is defined as a minimum of 2 years, which will be evaluated based on the variety and complexity of the tasks performed, the level of responsibility of the candidate as well as the type of projects, the number and level of stakeholders.
EXPERIENCE
STREAM 1 - DREDGING OPERATIONS OFFICER
- Experience managing projects relevant to the duties of the position.

Dependent on the position to be filled:
- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence or the capacity to travel using a valid unrestricted driver’s licence

- Willing and able to work weekends and evenings on short notice
- Willing and able to wear personal protective equipment and CSA-approved footwear

- Maintain a valid Health Canada Category III Medical for Scientific Field Personnel.
