Duties

Issues permits that are the responsibility of the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) under the following pieces of legislation: Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994 and the Migratory Birds Regulations; Species at Risk Act.
Coordinates input from CWS-Prairie program experts on permits as required.
Records data in tracking systems. Tracks payments received for permit fees.
Responds to public inquiries by phone, fax and/or email.
Responsible for general administrative office duties such as ordering supplies, mail and courier deliveries, photocopying and filing.
Provides advice and guidance to the private sector and general public on the processes, procedures and requirements related to specific permits and the permit program.
Participates in the development of policies, strategies, approaches and tools for CWS permitting programs.
Flags issues with managers, colleagues and specialists, and resolves issues or difficulties.
Participates on project teams and working groups as required; contributes to the preparation of reports, briefings and presentations as required.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate English essential position in Saskatoon (SK).

A pool of qualified candidates may be created and used to staff similar positions with various tenures, security requirements and/or language profiles within Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Education:
ED1: A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).

◦ An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1: Experience in providing policy or regulatory advice to internal or external clients.
EX2: Experience in organizing and filing files or documents.
EX3: Experience in analyzing, summarizing and reporting on information.
EX4: Experience in responding to inquiries from the public.
EX5: Experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Internet Explorer (or other web-browser) and Outlook (or other email program).

Asset Education:
AED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in natural resources management, wildlife management, wildlife biology, ecology, or related natural resources field relevant to the position.

Asset Experience:
AEX1: Experience in drafting or reviewing regulatory authorizations.
AEX2: Experience providing advice on permitting.
AEX3: Experience providing advice on environmental issues.
AEX4: Experience in the use of file sharing platforms.
AEX5: Experience in the use of databases.
AEX6: Experience in planning meetings.
AEX7: Significant* experience responding to public inquiries.
AEX 8: Experience with financial management including sorting and depositing of cheques.

* Significant experience means experience obtained by the candidate is representative of the depth and breadth of experience that would normally have been gained performing the duties for a period of approximately two (2) years.
