The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and marketability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.
The CGC is a significant part of Canada’s dynamic and diverse agricultural sector. We regulate grain handling in Canada, set grain standards and conduct research on grain. This process will be used to staff one (1) indeterminate position.
A pool may be created to staff similar positions with various linguistic profiles and tenures (indeterminate, specified term, acting, deployment, secondment).

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in entomology or invertebrate zoology.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience performing experiments with insects.
• Experience managing an inspection or monitoring program.
• Experience controlling or eradicating insect pests.
• Experience synthesizing program information and data to support policy development and/or research.
• Experience utilizing software for data collection/analysis, report writing and scientific equipment use.
• Recent* experience managing human and financial resources**.
*Recent experience is defined as within the last 2 years.
**In demonstrating “management of human resources” candidates must show that they have experience in at least three (3) of the following human resources management responsibilities: developing or implementing staffing activities; developing or implementing training plans; setting goals or objectives; monitoring performance; providing feedback; establishing workloads; allocating resources; taking disciplinary actions.

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and applicable documents and publications.
• Knowledge of the Canadian commercial grain handling system and equipment used.
• Knowledge of stored product insect pest taxonomy, biology, ecology and control measures.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Availability and willingness to travel.
• Availability and willingness to work overtime, as required.
• Availability and willingness to work in an industrial environment with exposure to grain dust and soil, and to outdoor working conditions. Known allergies must be controlled through the use of dust masks and/or medication, and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
Reliability Status security clearance
- Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain, in good standing, the appropriate security level clearance for access to any work related site.
- Valid drivers’ license or personal mobility in the time and manner normally associated with possession and use of a drivers’ license.
