As a Communications Manager, you will be challenged to:
• Manage a communications team, including human resources, responsible for the development and implementation of departmental strategic communications plans and activities.
• Provide strategic advice and guidance on all aspects of communications, frequently involving sensitive subject matter, to the Minister’s office, senior and middle management and employees.
• Passionately and proactively, tell stories through a variety of mediums about the successes, projects and results achieved by CanNor, so that all Canadians have a better understanding of CanNor’s impact.
• Oversee, plan and deliver reactive and proactive media strategies, including the development of media advisories, key messages, questions and answers and the development and organization of special events and media opportunities.
Established in August 2009, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North. It is headquartered in Iqaluit, Nunavut with regional offices in Yellowknife (Northwest Territories), Whitehorse (Yukon) and a liaison office in Ottawa (Ontario). This position is located at CanNor’s headquarters in Iqaluit and it is supported by staff in all of CanNor's offices.
CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for all northerners and Indigenous peoples across Canada's three Territories. As the smallest of the Government of Canada’s six regional development agencies (approximately 115 staff), CanNor provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to be part of a small but mighty organization.
Please note: We have an immediate need to staff one indeterminate position.
Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.
Interchange Canada may also be used as a staffing option***.
*** Note: Interchange Canada is a program that gives people working outside the Government of Canada (for example, employees of Inuit organizations, Government of Nunavut, the private sector etc.) the chance to take a leave from their job on a temporary assignment to work within the federal government. There is no cost to the employee’s organization – the federal government reimburses the employee’s salary and employees maintain their benefits!
