Duties

The Mobile Radio Engineering Specialist will work in a team environment to conduct research and development of new radio technologies, plan, design, implement and support radio systems. The Mobile Radio Engineering Specialist will assist the RCMP Divisional radio programs to troubleshoot technical problems, procure radio equipment and to provide technical advice to the System Project Manager and the Divisional radio personnel.

The Mobile Radio Engineering Specialist will also assist the System Project Manager to develop Statement of Work, project cost estimates, business cases and investment option analysis reports as well as project management documents.

The Mobile Radio Engineering Specialist will be able to apply for the Professional Engineer licence if meeting all qualifications set by the provincial professional engineer governance body.

Work environment

This position is part of the RCMP's National Radio Services team and is responsible for organizing and managing technical projects to maintain or enhance RCMP radio systems across Canada.

The National Radio Services team provides our police officers with an important lifeline, a radio communication infrastructure. The core of our mandate is to maintain and enhance the RCMP radio systems across Canada. Being part of our team of 30+ engineers, you will be available to help in numerous tasks:

• Assisting in radio coverage testing and analysis
• Investigating new digital communication technologies
• Gain experience in antennas, filtering, amplifiers, transceivers, etc.
• Gain experience in writing technical documents
• Radio installation work in other Provinces

The position is located at 1200 Vanier Parkway, Ottawa, Ontario, however please note that full-time virtual work is the current preferred working arrangement for the team in light of the challenges presented by COVID-19. Please note, employees might be required to physically go in to the office as some positions are essential and operational.

Intent of the process

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

• Experience in the field of wireless communications.
