Economic Advisor (EC-04 level):
Responsible for carrying out assigned policy, economic, or socio-economic research and analysis studies. Develops briefing notes, strategic notes, environmental scans, and other materials. Represents the DFO unit through contacting or participating in meetings with other regional or national DFO organizations through participating in meetings with other federal government departments, provincial governments, First Nations, and other stakeholders to exchange information, to explain socio-economic methods or data used in studies, or to explain particular characteristics of programs or policies being studied to clarify technical issues in the development of study conclusions intended to assist with policy development. Provides leadership to small working groups on occasion to achieve short term project objectives, participates in teams and longer term working groups to achieve common objectives, and provides guidance on policy reports for which responsible.
Economic Advisor (EC-05 level):
Responsible for planning and conducting research and analysis on economics, policy and/or intergovernmental issues relevant to the Canadian fisheries sector in areas of specialization (e.g., economic, socio-economic, regional developments, policy, legislation, regulation or corporate planning). Develops briefing notes, strategic notes, environmental scans, research reports, position papers, presentations, and other materials. Represents DFO on issues with other regional or national DFO organizations through participating in meetings with other federal government departments, provincial governments, First Nations, and other stakeholders to exchange information and collaborate on files. Leads (unit, sector, or departmental) project teams, on a short term basis. Prepares for and organizes intergovernmental meetings.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada is responsible for policies and programs in support of Canada's economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters; for the conservation and sustainable utilization of Canada's fisheries resources in marine and inland waters; for leading and facilitating federal policies and programs on oceans; and for safe, effective and environmentally sound marine services responsive to the needs of Canadians in a global economy.
The intent is to create a pool to staff 1 vacant position in Winnipeg, MB. The pool may also be used to staff similar positions on a temporary or permanent basis within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ontario and Prairie Region, DFO Arctic Region and the CCG Arctic Region.

Graduation with a PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in Economics, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Sociology, Statistics, Public Administration, or other specialization relevant to the position
Experience preparing, developing and presenting written and verbal reports or briefing materials.
Experience in socio-economic analysis or cost-benefit analysis related to aquatic invasive species, marine protected areas, or aquaculture.

Graduation with a Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in Economics, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Sociology, Statistics, Public Administration, or other specialization relevant to the position

The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
