Intent of the process

A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the SE-RES group within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Education
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, such as a specialization in climate science or landscape ecology; or the employer-approved alternative.

NOTE: The employer-approved alternative is an acceptable master's degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.

Degree equivalency

Experience
· Planning, directing and conducting scientific research on one or more research areas related to climate change and forest ecosystems, such as scenario and simulation modeling; low carbon strategies; GHG accounting; climate resilience; adaptation; innovation; and/or bio-economy
· Collaborating effectively with industry, end users, other government researchers, and/or academia to address key research questions on climate change and forest ecosystems
· Developing grant proposals; and planning and accounting for resources allocated
· Supervising scientific support staff, students, and/or visiting researchers
· Communicating approaches and results of research to technical and non-technical audiences effectively through presentations, stakeholder meetings, peer-reviewed scientific journals, books, reports, or other media

Productivity / Recognition:
• A proven record of scientific publication in relevant peer-reviewed journals, published reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from operational research and scientific analysis
• Achievement in the form of local and national and/or international recognition of research or uptake of research by forest managers or other end users.

· Analysing multi-scale spatial and temporal data using image analysis, geographic information systems, and statistical analysis software
· Assessing, monitoring and modeling forest ecosystems including scenario and simulation modeling of landscape and climate change impacts
· Developing cost-effective solutions for sustainable forest management and conservation
