The ideal candidate:
You must have an attention to detail as you will be required to research, analyze and gather background information in response to client service requests.
You are a strong communicator, as you will be required to provide advice and explanations related to compensation – related legislation and regulations to ensure an understanding of the laws, decisions, procedures and processes.
The Compensation Services Division is committed to supporting employees and resolving public service pay issues. Our goal is to build a dedicated contemporary team of compensation advisors and through innovation and continual improvement, we will be more efficient and provide comprehensive resolutions of pay issues, and a reduction in backlogged cases.
We are looking for candidates who have a passion for client service and making a difference in the lives of CBSA employees.
In this role, you will be guided through your training and development to help you achieve the requirements of AS-02 classification.
Immediate need is to staff AS-01 positions across Canada and to create a qualified group of candidates at the AS-01 group and level to be used to staff future vacancies.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).
Notes:
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the AS classification.
The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.
Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the AS classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.
Acceptable experience and/or training in a field relevant to positions in the AS classification is required when the education qualification specified for the position being staffed is a secondary school diploma or approved employer alternatives.
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Working experience with a human resources information management system or payroll software.
EX2: Working experience providing client services in a fast paced and high pressure environment.
EX3: Working experience in navigating the internet and using Microsoft Office software, such as Outlook, Excel and Word.
EXPERIENCE:
AS1: Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation from the Canadian Payroll Association
AS2: Completed Diploma or Degree in Finance, Business Administration or Human Resources
AS3: Experience with the Corporate Administrative System (CAS) role 18 (pay)
AS4: Experience with the Corporate Administrative System (CAS) role 43 (time)
AS5: Experience with Corporate Administrative System (CAS) role 44 (time administration)
AS6: Experience with payroll and employee benefits
AS7: Experience with the application of collective agreements
AS8: Experience in providing administrative support services to an executive*
*Executive is defined at the EX-01 level or higher

*** NOTE: Candidates MUST complete the screening questions that will be generated by the system automatically once the candidate applies. The candidate must first be screened in on each essential qualification to move to the next stage of assessment. Screened in candidates will receive a questionnaire by e-mail. Top-down approach may be used at the screening stage and at various points in the process to determine the number of qualified candidates who will be considered for further assessment in the process.
