Duties

Conducts a variety of cleaning/housekeeping/maintenance services.

Orders, stores, maintains adequate inventories of all sanitation commodities; supervises the issuance of sanitation supplies and cleaning equipment.

Maintains and repairs cleaning equipment; replenishes cleaning supplies and services.

Accompanies and assists pest control contractors within the institution and performs cleaning inspections to ensure housekeeping practices meet pest control standards.

Searches building facility for contraband, maintains search log and issues search report and delivers contraband to the Security officials.

Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

Staff may be working in an institutional environment where there could be offender contact.

Occasional exposure to unpleasant noises, sights, odours, to dust, dirt, chemicals, dampness, contaminated material and humidity, wetness and extremes of weather conditions and variations in temperatures due to the entering and leaving of buildings throughout the institution.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this process will be used to staff positions as they become available. Staffing needs include permanent, temporary and casual/as required employment opportunities.

EDUCATION

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience* in providing a variety of cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance services in either commercial, residential or an institutional/facility setting.
*Experience gained through employment or volunteer services

Experience in the use of various computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Candidates must meet all of the essential qualifications noted in the Statement of Merit Criteria to be appointed to a position. A candidate may be appointed to a position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications or operational requirements. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

Screening will occur in December with assessments beginning in January 2021.

Volume management methods may be utilized.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
