An excellent opportunity to be a Change Agent!!

The Indigenous Services Canada, Income Assistance Program is a National program that provides funding to First Nation communities, organizations and other service providers to cover the expenses associated with delivering income assistance support payments to eligible First Nations individuals and their families in need. In the City of Whitehorse, the program is administered in a client service center.

The objective of the income support program is to ensure that eligible individuals and families receive funds to cover the expenses of daily living, special needs, as well as pre-employment services designed move individuals towards self-sufficiency (such as life skills and job training). The Social Worker will contribute to this objective through the provision of coordination, planning and case management with clients in Whitehorse.

It is in this context that the Social Worker position will operate by applying the Indigenous Services Canada Income Support Program Guidelines and related program authorities in the delivery of supportive social work services. In addition, the program follows the Social Assistance Act of the Yukon Government which is used by Yukon Territorial staff in their delivery of Social Assistance to non-First Nations Yukoners.

There is National and Regional work already underway to reform the Income Assistance program to have a more client and culturally centric sensitive focus and as well to collaborate with all clients and their representatives in a manner that is consistent with their worldviews. This role is a new one in the office and will require a person who is comfortable working within transformational environment and being a key change agent.
