This is an exciting time to join the Executive Team of the Canadian Coast Guard in the Western Region.
The Organization’s main activities in the Western Region are Fleet Operations, Integrated Technical Services, Navigational Programs, Incident Management and Integrated Business Management Services. The Canadian Coast Guard, a Special Operating Agency within Fisheries and Oceans Canada, is entrusted to deliver valuable programs and services to Canadians that save lives, protect the environment and support our Canadian economy. Additionally, the Government of Canada is committed to a renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples, based on the recognition of rights, respect, cooperation, and partnership. Fisheries and Oceans Canada is working to modernize and strengthen its structures in order to support Indigenous capacity building.
The Canadian Coast Guard regional headquarters can be found in Victoria, British Columbia as well as numerous offices located throughout the Western provinces of Canada.

EDUCATION
-Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution.
OR
-A professional qualification such as Master Mariner or Royal Canadian Navy Major Warship Command.
EXPERIENCE
-Significant* experience in providing expert advice to executive management.
-Significant* experience in managing an operational program in the marine domain at a National or Regional level OR significant* experience as a senior officer serving onboard of a vessel (having a Gross Register Tonnage of 500 tons or more).
-Significant* experience in leading consultations and negotiations to resolve complex** issues in a marine environment.
-Significant* experience in managing human and financial resources.
Notes:
* Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience, normally acquired at the Executive, Command or Senior Management level, by performing a broad range of various related activities over a minimum period of two (2) full years.
**Complex issues are issues with at least three (3) of the following characteristics: multi-dimensional, multi-jurisdictional, sensitive, confidential, affecting many partners or stakeholders, precedent setting or having a major impact on the public service or having a potential for significant media coverage.
EDUCATION
-Graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
-Master, Near Coastal or above
-Coast Guard Command certificate
-Command Qualification Major War Vessels or above
-Command Qualification Minor War Vessels or above
-Marine Engineering Head of Department or above
-Naval Combat systems Engineering Head of Department or above
-Second Class Engineer Motor or Steamship or above
-Naval Supply Head of Department
EXPERIENCE
-Experience in managing an organizational change initiative.
-Experience working directly with Indigenous governments, organizations or communities.
-Experience in managing the operations of a fleet of vessels.
-Experience in an Incident Command System Position in Command or General Staff positions.
