Screens, assesses, monitors and refers incoming travellers for the purpose of mitigating the risk of introduction and spread of communicable diseases that pose significant public health implications in Canada, through the application of various border and health, biosecurity practices (i.e., health promotion, health prevention, pandemic and other preparedness and response, surveillance and data analysis), in coordination with health portfolio partners and partners in multi-jurisdictions.
Health Assessment Officers will be required to work a shift work schedule, including evenings and weekends at many Ports of Entry. The schedule does not currently include overnights, however, this may be a requirement in the future.

The immediate intent of the inventory is to staff temporary Health Assessment Officer positions to prepare and respond to the emergence of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This could include casual and term (specified period) appointments. Preference will be given to those able to commit to full-time hours on a rotational basis.
This inventory may be used to staff immediate and future vacant positions within the Public Health Agency of Canada:
* various tenures,
* various language requirements and linguistic profiles,
* various security requirements,
* various operational requirements, and/or
* various conditions of employment.
The Public Health Agency of Canada will retrieve applications on an as needed basis and assess the applicants. Please note that each hiring manager may have specific criteria to assess for their respective positions. You only need to apply once to be considered for many opportunities. Once your application is in our inventory, even if your application is not retrieved for one job, it remains in the inventory and can be retrieved later for other opportunities. It is important for candidates to indicate all the locations for which they are interested in. Additional locations, may be considered based on the needs of the position being staffed. Essential Education:
There are three (3)components to the education requirements:
EDU1:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
• Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
• Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the EG classification.
EDU2:
Successful completion of a recognized education program in paramedicine at the primary care paramedic level in the province where the position is located.
OR
Successful completion of a Practical Nursing (RPN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Diploma Program.
EDU3:
Eligibility for the title of Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic Ambulance Technician, or any other title related to paramedical services in a province or territory of Canada
Essential Experience:
• Experience in performing health assessments and deciding on a course of action.

Essential Abilities:

Candidates MAY be required to meet ONE OR MORE of the following qualifications, depending on the requirements of the specific position being staffed as they may be deemed as either an Essential or Asset qualification.
Asset or Essential Experience:
• Experience in managing and in controlling infectious diseases.
• Experience in emergency preparedness and response.
• Experience in primary health care including public health.
Operational Requirements
Operational requirements vary by position; therefore, not all of the following operational requirements may apply to positions being staffed. We encourage everyone to apply even if you may not be able or willing to meet one or more of the following operational requirements:
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required, on short notice.
• Willingness and ability to be on call, and on stand-by as required. This may require working in the evenings and on weekends.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work as needed.
• Willing and able to work shifts, variable hours, weekends, and statutory holidays.
Reliability Status security clearance
• REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (RPN) / LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN) ONLY: Valid license/registration to practice nursing in the province or territory of employment.
• PARAMEDIC ONLY: Current registration / licensure / certification with a provincial paramedic regulator in Canada.
• Willing and able to wear partial to full protective equipment (e.g., respiratory protection, N95 masks, gloves) in order to maintain infection prevention and control
• Valid class 5 or G driver's licence (depending on the position being staffed)
• Travel to one or more port of entry, as required (depending on the position being staffed)
