Assessment accommodation

This position is located in Toronto. As a result of the global pandemic, OSFI employees are currently working from home. Should the current telework environment no longer apply, you will be required to report to and work onsite from the Toronto office.

Duties

OSFI’s Operational Risk Division is seeking a highly motivated individual to join their team in the role of Director, Operational Risk. The Division is responsible for setting precedents in Operational Risk management practices and providing expert advice, guidance and technical support within OSFI. The successful candidate will play a key senior role in leading operational risk assessments and reviews of financial institutions. Responsibilities will include:
• Identifying emerging operational risks within the financial services industry and working closely with Supervision Lead Supervisors to evaluate the effectiveness of oversight and control functions within financial institutions.
• Overseeing on-site operational risk reviews in an effective manner.
• Leading the on-going monitoring of institutions’ operations and follow-up on identified issues.
• Escalating key or critical issues, making appropriate value-added recommendations to institutions.
• Leading the identification and analysis of industry trends and practices, and institution-specific operational risks and mitigants.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
• A university degree with specialization in commerce, accounting, business, finance, actuarial science, economics or mathematics OR an acceptable combination of education, experience, and/or training.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
• Recent and significant experience in the financial services industry* in the assessment and mitigation of operational risk.
• Recent experience or exposure to one or more of the following in the financial services industry*:
o Auditing of operational / processing functions
o Line management of operational / processing functions
o Control function within a financial institution
o Capital markets operations
o Data management
o Supervision of financial institutions

*Financial services industry includes experience working in a financial institution, including banks, insurance companies, pension funds, wealth management firms, and accounting firms (dealing with audits), as well as government departments that directly deal with the supervision and regulation of these institutions, or other relevant areas.
