Field work in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), Southern Ontario; Lab work and office work at the ECCC offices in Toronto, Ontario.
Field-based: Much of the fieldwork will be led by research scientists of ECCC, commonly in partnership with academic partners. Work conditions will be variable depending on local circumstances.
Office-based: Assignments include data processing, analysis and interpretation as well as visualization and interface development.
In particular:
1.) Collection and processing of data related to methane and other greenhouse gas emissions in the GTHA related to natural and anthropogenic sources.
2.) Processing of output of data collected during mobile greenhouse gas surveys collected in the GTHA.
3.) Analysis of continuous and field campaign data of atmospheric greenhouse gas total column abundances collected using ground-based remote sensing instruments.
Office (computer), laboratory and field work (spectrometers). The student is expected (1) to analyze data using various computer software and to develop methods for such analysis, (2) to contribute to the optimization the existing ECCC greenhouse gas emission maps for the GTHA and (3) to compare atmospheric observations from different platforms (ground-based remote sensing, mobile surveys).Canada.

Student must be currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD Program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution at which she/he is enrolled as having full-time student status in one of the following specializations: physics, chemistry, meteorology, environmental sciences or a related natural science.
Enrollment in a Master's or PhD program is required for a RAP position.
The work required significant problem solving skills, data analysis technique, laboratory experience and general understanding of principles applied in natural sciences. The most suitable natural science disciplines are listed above.
Experience in planning and conducting research
Experience in working with a team of researchers or support staff
Experience in using mobile platforms to conduct surveys of atmospheric greenhouse gases in urban areas.
Experience in data analysis tools related to neural networks and/or machine learning.
