Intent of the process

CURRENT NEED:

To staff two (3) positions on a term or indeterminate basis.

FUTURE NEEDS:

This selection process may be used to staff similar positions with various linguistic requirements and profiles, various security requirements, various operational requirements and conditions of employment and/or various tenures within Health Canada.

EDUCATION

ED1 - Successful completion of post-secondary education (recognized College or Technical Institute) in Building Operations and Maintenance or a license in one of the following trades:

- Building System Technician (4-year apprenticeship)
- Electrician
- Plumber
- Stationary Engineer
- Heat, Ventilation, Air conditioning Technician
- Other trades license related to the field of building operations

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EXP1 - Experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of building systems and their related equipment.
EXP2 - Experience working with building automated control systems.

AED1 - Public Services and Procurement Canada (PWGSC) Building Systems Technician Diploma.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

AEXP1 - Experience working in specialized science facilities, such as laboratories or medical facilities.

KNOWLEDGE

K1 - Knowledge of Fire Alarms, panels, sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems.
K2 - Knowledge of techniques, tools, equipment and materials related to machinery maintenance.
K3 - Knowledge of the operating principles, maintenance and repair procedures and practices of relevant mechanical equipment within facilities.
K4 - Knowledge of applicable standards, codes and regulations including environmental and safety regulations relevant to building operations and maintenance.

ABILITIES

A1 - Ability to inspect, operate and maintain building equipment and systems.
A2 - Ability to interpret equipment specifications, manuals. blue prints or drawings of the various building systems.
A3 - Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
A4 - Ability to communicate effectively orally.

2 - Willingness and ability to work on ladders, in confined spaces, in inclement weather, and in strenuous operational environments.
3 - Willingness and ability to lift heavy weight.
4 - Willingness and ability to wear personal protective equipment.
