We are looking for dynamic candidates that will help shape and build the future of Transport Canada. The persons selected will have the opportunity to increase their experience and expertise. The following are just some of the interesting duties of the position:
1. Participates in the design, development and implementation of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulatory compliance program.
2. Assists in the design, development and delivery of safety education and awareness programs for internal and external stakeholders, including the public.
3. Participates in the development of new regulations, standards, and associated guidelines, policies and procedures.
4. Performs safety data analysis services (i.e., trend analysis, risk assessment), business and operational planning, results measurement and program evaluation; and provides pertinent advice and recommendations to the management of the Compliance and Response Branch.
5. Provides expert subject matter technical advice and guidance to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the public on TDG oversight programs.
6. Participates in internal and external working groups, project teams, consultation committees and other initiatives on matters related to dangerous goods safety; and develops and maintains a consultative and authoritative network of contacts to promote a safe and secure national transportation system in Canada.
7. Provides and supports formal and informal workplace learning and knowledge transfer through various means including job shadowing, coaching and mentoring. Participates in the conduct of the dangerous goods and means of containment facility inspections for multi-modal transportation; and initiates or recommends compliance and enforcement actions or measures for alleged infractions to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (TDGA), and related, regulations and standards
The intent of this process is to staff 3 positions on an indeterminate basis. A pool of essentially and/or partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar or identical bilingual positions of various tenures (specified period, indeterminate, deployment, assignment, secondment and acting) within Transport Canada, Quebec Region.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, experience and training.
EXPERIENCE
- Recent and significant experience* in conducting one or more of the following: inspections, investigations, audits.
- Experience in the interpretation and application of standards, regulations or legislation.
* Recent and significant experience means at least two CUMULATIVE years of work experience acquired over the past five years.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Associates Degree, Diploma or Certificate from a recognized university, post-secondary institute or learning institute in chemistry, engineering or a related scientific field.
Experience
- Experience working in the dangerous goods industry or in a regulatory environment.
- Experience in engaging and maintaining interdepartmental relationships with at least one of the following groups: federal departments/agencies, provincial/territorial departments, external clients or associations.
- Experience in planning and developing outreach sessions or information materials.
- Experience working in the railway industry, in particular with the maintenance of railway vehicles or with involvement in the movement of dangerous goods.
- Experience working in the maritime industry, in particular with involvement in the movement of dangerous goods by vessel.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992 and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations.
- Knowledge of the Canadian transportation system.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness and ability to work overtime (including nights, weekends, and including stand-by (on call), which would be required mainly if an unforeseen event occurs – such as a major accident).
- Willingness and ability to work in adverse environments and weather conditions.
- Willingness to work alone in isolated locations.

Secret security clearance
- Possession of a valid Canadian Provincial or Territorial Driver's License.
- Pre-employment Medical Examination Category III.
- Physical environment: this position requires, on occasion, to be willing and able to provide physical effort to climb structures, equipment of facilities on sites where the access is difficult and the terrain rugged.
