Duties

DUTIES
Stream 1: Project Manager
Science coordination of the geoscience research initiative Targeted Geoscience Initiative, including but not limited to financial coordination of geoscience projects, Indigenous engagement, and leading communication and engagement of scientific products to disseminate geoscience knowledge to various key audiences.

Stream 2: Section Head, Geospatial Analytics & Information
Manage a team of specialists performing geospatial analysis, cartography, and the production and dissemination of scientific and technical publications for the Geological Survey of Canada. Act as an expert/authority to provide input for planning and strategic direction for the GSC’s geoinformatics and publishing services.

Stream 3: Section Head, Airborne Geophysics (Anticipated)
Manage a team of specialists performing airborne surveys, coordination of large procurement projects in airborne geophysics and engage with various stakeholders to ensure that the data and publications are aligned with open geoscience standards.

Stream 4: Section Head (Anticipated)
Manage a team of specialists to conceptualize, plan and implement multiple geological projects involving science professionals. Control financial and human resources.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent is to staff 2 positions in streams 1 and 2. Streams 3 and 4 are anticipated.

A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the PC-04 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in natural sciences, geography, geomatics, geoscience or other science relevant to the position or the employer-approved alternative.

NOTE:
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. Demonstration of experience equivalent to post-secondary degree program is also acceptable.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
1. Significant* experience coordinating or leading activities for cross-disciplinary working groups or projects that involve various stakeholders in a research, policy or services context.
2. Significant* experience preparing scientific or technical publications for scientific and non-scientific audiences.
3. Experience conducting research analysis and providing advice in briefing notes, reports and presentations to senior management. **
4. Significant* experience managing human resources. ***
5. Experience managing financial resources. ****

* Significant is defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally acquired with the performance of duties in the workplace during a period of two (2) years or more.
** Senior Management is defined as Director level or above.
*** Experience managing human resources is defined as supervising staff, assigning work, managing, and assessing performance and developing or contributing to the development of staffing plans. Applicants must indicate the number of staff they supervised.
**** Experience managing financial resources is defined as managing a budget, including being responsible for sound financial planning, forecasting and reporting. Applicants must indicate the size of the budget they managed directly or indirectly.

Significant* experience in conducting geological exploration projects.
