Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates in order to staff positions of Optical Senior Lead (PC-04) and Optical specialist (PC-03) with various language requirements, tenures, and security requirements.

You will have to answer pre-screening questions in your application for the following education and experiences:

EDUCATION:
(PC-03) Optical Specialist:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, Geology or chemistry.

(PC-04) Optical Senior Lead:
Master’s degree or doctorate from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization relevant to the duties of the position such as, but not limited to: Physics, Astronomy, Optics, Photonics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Note :
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
(PC-03) Optical Specialist:
Recent* experience of approximately three (3) years in the utilization of passive*** and/or active**** optical sensors for remote sensing and/or terrestrial metrology.

Recent* experience of approximately two (2) years in the development** of passive*** and/or active**** optical instrumentation for remote sensing and/or terrestrial metrology.

(PC-04) Optical Senior Lead:
Recent* experience of approximately five (5) years in the utilization of passive*** and/or active**** optical sensors for remote sensing and/or terrestrial metrology.

Recent* experience of approximately three (3) years in the development** of passive*** and/or active**** optical instrumentation for remote sensing and/or terrestrial metrology.

DEFINITIONS:
* Recent experience is defined as having been acquired within the last ten (10) years.

** Development is defined as performing a broad range of complex and interrelated work activities including: research, modeling, analysis, design, assembly, integration, test and qualification.

*** Passive optical remote sensing and metrology systems include imagers, telescopes, spectrometers, interferometers, and usage of focal plane.

**** Active optical remote sensing and metrology systems include light detection and ranging (LIDAR), laser-assisted remote spectroscopy (e.g. Differential Absorption LIDAR (DIAL) or Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS)), and laser communications.

***** A Doctorate degree is equivalent to three (3) years of experience (including the Master). A Master degree is equivalent to one (1) year of experience.

Space optics experience at postgraduate or employment level.

Atmospheric science and/or astronomy specialization at postgraduate or employment level.

Experience in space missions.

Experience on Systems and Flight Hardware that has flown in space.

Experience in working effectively with technical and management staff of other space agencies on issues related Flight Hardware.

Experience with optical design tools (Zemax, Code V, TracePro or other).
