As Director General, Public Affairs, you will play a key leadership role in the Communications and Portfolio Sector (CPS) of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).
If you like working in a fast-paced environment on a variety of files, managing digital communications, engaging on multiple issues with senior officials, from the Minister’s office to all Assistant-Deputy Ministers’ offices, this position may be of interest to you.
As a communications expert, you will be advising and working with sectors to communicate to Canadians about the Government of Canada's important work across the Natural Resources Sectors, for example from clean technology to the forest sector. You will also have a front-row seat to what goes on in Parliament, as the sector is responsible for managing the department's parliamentary agenda.
The CPS communications team has an excellent reputation in the public service; it is recognized as a solid partner to its clients.
We collaborate with clients across the department on important initiatives that create meaningful impact for Canadians. For example, programs that create jobs for Indigenous peoples in the forest and energy sectors, or establishing programs to advance the Government of Canada's climate change goals, such as the Emissions Reductions Fund to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the oil and gas sector.
CPS is also an ally in the fight against racism and is developing a charter and an action plan to ensure we take concrete step to be a diverse and inclusive workforce. NRCan is a great environment for employees, where everyone is celebrated! Employees are encouraged to actively participate in a number of communities, such as: the Pride Network, which developed a Guide for supporting Trans Employees; the Indigenous Employee Network, which launched a Circle of Nations Learning Centre, where all NRCan employees, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, come together to participate in Traditional Ceremonies; and the Visible Minority Advisory Council, with the vision to achieve a harmonious and inclusive workplace that is discrimination-free. NRCan is also a strong promoter of women in science, and participates yearly in many activities that promote women in today’s workforce.
