What kind of work will you do?

As a Program Officer you will make a difference in the lives of Canadians through these activities:
• Providing information, advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
• Assessing and making recommendations on Grants and Contribution applications, Labour Market Impact Assessments and other employer support programs.
• Interpreting and applying policies, procedures and legislation
• Negotiating funding proposals and monitoring approved projects and/or agreements.
• Researching and analyzing labour market data for various industries.
• Developing integrated and strategic approaches involving different projects addressing complex situations for the community.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established to staff Program Officer positions.
The pool may be used to staff similar positions within Employment and Social Development Canada, Ontario Region.

Education:
• Secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma (GIT-320); or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience).

Experience:
• Experience in delivering services or programs to the general public involving obtaining and providing information requiring explanation or clarification
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Sociology, Economics, Marketing, Social Policy, Public Policy, English or French

Experience:
• Experience working in a challenging client service environment.

Candidates must meet all the essential criteria in order to be appointed. However, applicants may be required to meet the asset qualifications or the organizational needs, depending on the requirements of the specific position being staffed.
A variety of assessment tools may be used (for example, a written examination and/or interview through videoconference, a reference check, etc) to determine qualification for the role.
At the time of assessment, confirmation of current/previous employment and/or references will be required.
