Assessment accommodation

Industrial Relations Officers (IRO) are responsible for overseeing applications and complaints filed under the Canada Labour Code, the Status of the Artist Act or the Wage Earner Protection Program Act to ensure that fulsome information is provided to the Board for decision. This includes working with parties (eg, unions, employers, self-represented complainants) to obtain written submissions, conducting investigations, writing reports, and overseeing representation votes. In addition, Industrial Relations Officers play an active role in helping parties to resolve their disputes through mediation and alternative dispute resolution approaches.

Intent of the process

A fully or partially assessed pool may be created and may be used to staff similar positions at an identical or equivalent group and level with various linguistic requirements, tenures and security clearances for various offices across the country within the Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada (ATSSC).

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with a specialization in industrial relations, labour relations, law or other specialty relevant to the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience in the field of labour relations, including the mediation, negotiation or the investigation of various types of complaints and/or labour relations disputes.

Experience developing and maintaining relationships with union or employer stakeholders.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Successful completion of a course in Alternate Dispute Resolution or in Mediation (at least 30 hours of continuous instruction).
