The position of Manager of the Renewable Heat & Power team, works under the supervision of the Director of the Buildings & Renewables Group, and is responsible for:
• Leading and supporting the development and delivery of CanmetENERGY-Ottawa’s S&T programs in the areas of renewables (wind, solar, marine), northern renewables, community energy systems, renewables used in equipment for buildings, and thermal storage.
• Managing the budget (approx. $2.6M/year) and human resources (up to 12 staff) assigned to the Renewable Heat & Power team
• Engaging with NRCan, other government and industry stakeholders to develop S&T plans and proposals, and secure funding and cost recovery funding for projects
• Supporting the delivery of projects
• Promoting staff engagement activities
• Promoting effective administration
• Promoting and enforcing Health and Safety activities in the workplace
• Contributing to and supporting CanmetENERGY-Ottawa’s and the Buildings & Renewables’ other R&D and corporate goals

This position is located at the Bells Corners Complex, situated within Ottawa’s Greenbelt, yet close to restaurants and shopping within the area of Bells Corners. Situated between Nepean and Kanata, we are close to the Bayshore bus station as well as the Eagleson/Terry Fox Park and Ride with bus access to the Complex. This location also features trails and walking paths as well as workplace wellness programs including running, fitness and mental health initiatives to boost employee morale and work/life balance.
The intent of this process is to staff one ENG-05 position on an indeterminate basis.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-ENG-05 group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.
Significant* experience in managing engineering projects in the field of renewable heat and power (wind, solar, marine, and/or energy storage).
Significant* experience in managing human and financial resources.
Experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
*Significant is meant as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired after performing the duties for 3 years.
Post-graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to renewable energy.
Experience working in the area of renewable energy policy and/or programs.
Experience in developing research plans and technology pathways.
Experience in publishing scientific articles and in presenting research at scientific conferences, in the area of renewable energy.
Experience working in the renewable energy industry.
Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC)
