Fisheries and Oceans Canada is looking for an Aquatic Science Chemist III (CH-03) to join the Ecosystems and Oceans Science Sector at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
In this role you will manage a laboratory, maintain existing analytical equipment and also develop new analytical methods in the field of carbonate and tracer chemistry. Your experience and knowledge will assist you in troubleshooting sensitive analytical equipment both in the laboratory and at sea. Working in a team environment, you will supervise staff and students and be responsible for their health and safety. You will be able to lead the chemistry component of oceanography missions and deal with deployment logistics. Lastly, you will apply data quality control procedures, present results orally and contribute to peer reviewed publications.

This process will be used to staff one permanent position with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ecosystems and Ocean Science Sector in Dartmouth, NS. A pool of qualified candidates will also be established for additional staffing opportunities.

►Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in chemistry or other natural science relevant to the position
►Experience in chemical analysis of natural water in laboratory and field environments
►Experience in data management, data analysis and interpretation of scientific data
►Experience in presenting scientific results to peers and managers at meetings, workshops and conferences
►Experience in publishing papers in peer-reviewed science journals
►Experience in designing and leading a scientific projects
►Experience in supervision and management of staff in a science laboratory or field environment

►Knowledge of the scientific principles of chemical oceanography
►Knowledge of marine carbonate chemistry

►Experience in conducting research on board large oceanographic research vessels
►Knowledge of gas chromatography
►Knowledge of operation and maintenance of chemical oceanographic sensors
