Duties

Reporting to the Associate Deputy Minister, the Corporate Secretary at the Department of National Defence is accountable for providing corporate leadership in the areas of Corporate Governance and Executive Events, Ministerial Liaison and Support (including Enquiries, Ministerial Briefings, Governor in Council appointments and Ministerial Correspondence), Access to Information and Privacy, as well as GBA+ to support the Department’s strategic and operational goals.

Our Mission - To provide the Defence Team with customized corporate services that facilitate the business process of Defence and to continuously improve and adapt.

EXP1. Experience(1) in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior executives and key stakeholders(2) on complex(3) matters related to the organization’s strategic and operational goals.
EXP2. Experience(1) in collaborating and maintaining strategic partnerships with stakeholders within complex(3) governance structures.
EXP3. Experience(1) managing financial(4) and human resources(5).

NOTES:

(1) Experience is the depth and breadth of the experience normally acquired by performing a broad range of various, complex activities associated with performing the full duties in an Executive or equivalent position for a period of at least three (3) years within the last five (5) years.
(2) Senior executives and key stakeholders at the Senior Vice President, Chief Operation Officer, Chief Executive Officer or Chair of the Board levels in the private sector, or at the ADM and DM levels in the Federal Public Service.
(3) Complex refers the following characteristics: multidimensional, sensitive, involving many stakeholders and competing requirements.
(4) Managing financial resources is defined as: planning, organizing, directing and controlling financial activities for the utilization of funds in the organization and exercising authority and accountability for a budget. Applicants must also indicate the size of the budget they managed directly.
(5) Managing human resources is defined as leading teams, assigning work, managing and assessing performance, developing training and development plans as well as recruitment and selection. Applicants must also indicate the number of employees they have managed.
