Assessment accommodation

Duties

- Regionally administering and coordinating the EAP;
- Providing assessment, short term counselling, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) services, referral and follow up to CBSA employees;
- Coordinating and delivering information sessions/workshops/training on personal and/or work-related subjects that may promote well-being;
- Selecting, coaching, training and monitoring Peer Support Agents;
- Providing advice and guidance to managers and/or union representatives as required through the EAP Advisory Service, which covers topics such as individual employee issues/ concerns, conflict and other team issues, coaching and leadership, etc.;
- Collecting, compiling and analyzing regional statistical information;
- Planning and designing various mental health initiatives such as surveys and promotional strategies, coordinating/implementing them, as well as analyzing and evaluating the results;
- Taking the lead or participating in national initiatives spearheaded by the National EAP Manager (ex: update guidelines or training materials, addition or update of tools on intranet, development of a strategy or plan for suicide awareness or specific events, etc.

The indeterminate position to be staffed is at 100 Metcalfe, Ottawa and the term position is at 2270 St-Laurent, Ottawa. But note that all coordinator-counsellors are mostly working from home at the moment.

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to staff one indeterminate position, one term position and to establish a pool for future vacancies. The pool established from this process may be used to staff similar positions within the CBSA across Canada.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

1- A Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Counselling, Social Services, Behavioral Sciences, Psychology or Educational Counselling
AND

Degree equivalency

2- Occupational certification: Eligibility for a professional designation recognized by a professional association in the counselling field.

You will be asked to bring with you a proof of current or past membership to a professional designation and/or association. If you are not a former or current member, you will be asked to bring documentation demonstrating that you meet the criteria to become a member of a specific professional designation and/or association. Therefore, please ensure that you possess the required documentation.

EXPERIENCE:

EXP1. A minimum of 5 years of experience (as part of the major job duties) in providing guidance and counselling as it relates to psycho-social interventions.

EXP2. Experience in providing professional advice to senior management on complex issues.*

EXP3. Experience coordinating and facilitating well-being sessions and training.

*Complex issues are defined as issues that involve various aspects which require the consideration of many interrelated facets before a solution can be suggested.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

CERTIFICATION:

1- Mental Health First Aid trainer certified by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

2- Certification in Critical Incident Stress Management.

EXPERIENCE:

AEXP1. Experience in participating in national scope projects or national working groups.

AEXP2. Experience in an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

AEXP3. Experience in a law enforcement environment.

AEXP4. Experience in Critical Incident Stress Management.

AEXP5. Experience designing well-being sessions.

KNOWLEDGE:

- Knowledge of the challenges associated with providing EAP or mental health services in an armed law enforcement environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:

- Placement of the Canada Border Services Agency Employees affected by Workforce Adjustment.
- Placement of the Canada Border Services Agency accommodated employees.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Willingness to carry and respond to a cellular phone.
- Willing and able to work overtime on short notice.
- Willing and able to travel occasionally. (temporarily on hold because of Covid-19).
