Duties

- Under the direction of the Coordinating Biologist (officer-in-charge), plan, perform and maintain field operations in support of the research program.
- Responsible for farming land not utilized for research in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Plan and allocate resources, efficiently for field operations.
- Keep records of farming operations.
- Assist with research duties when required.
- Supervise casual employees and students under a safe working environment.
- Maintain farm equipment.

Work environment

As one of a number of agricultural research sites located in Canada, this Supervisor Specialized Operations Worker / Field Orchard Worker position is located at the Scott Research Farm site, in Saskatchewan. The Scott Research Farm site is responsible for agronomic research, variety testing, pesticide evaluations and Minor Use Registration of Pesticides.

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to staff the described position on a permanent full-time basis.

In addition, a pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to staff similar positions with various tenures.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience with western Canadian farming practices, crops, soil and pest management.
Experience planning and coordinating farm field operations.
Experience in the operation, maintenance and calibration of modern agricultural equipment.
Experience with basic computer software, including word processors, spreadsheets, email, software for storage and manipulation of data.

Experience repairing and maintaining agricultural/farm related equipment.

Knowledge of methods, techniques and practices of farm land management, erosion control, Crop rotation, tillage, and crop production methods.

ABILITY
