•Supervise and perform activities for maintenance of plantings and research plants in the greenhouse related to scientific programs.
•Plan and implement work activities including pruning, greenhouse preparation, planting, spraying, pest management, and irrigation work.
•Monitor and identify problems in greenhouse operations and discuss concerns with researchers and/or technical staff with experiments or projects.
•Explain work procedures, set schedules and assign tasks to skilled and unskilled labourers and instruct and monitor the work of casual workers.
•Inspect all greenhouse equipment and greenhouse facilities to ensure operational condition and cleanliness.
The immediate need is to staff 1 permanent full-time position in Agassiz, British Columbia. A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process and it may be used to staff identical GL-MAN-09 positions or positions of an equivalent groups and levels within Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.The needs could be for various tenures, linguistic requirements, security requirements, conditions of employment and locations.

EDUCATION:
Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in plant science, agriculture or related field OR a combination of education, training and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in the management, operation, and maintenance of a greenhouse facility.
- Experience in Integrated Pest Management practices supporting the production of greenhouse crops.
- Experience in the use of e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications.
- Experience using computer integrated greenhouse environmental controls
- Experience in the Supervision of Staff.
ASSET EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in horticulture, plant sciences or agriculture.
ASSET EXPERIENCE
- Experience using Argus greenhouse environmental controls.
- Experience working in an Agricultural research environment.

KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of plant nutrition, propagation and production methods and the delivery of nutrients to greenhouse crops.
- Knowledge of how to manage, operate and maintain a modern greenhouse facility.
