We are seeking a research biologist with experience in plant breeding, plant genetics/genomics, plant pathology or plant molecular biology to work at the Brandon Research and Development Centre.
The successful candidate will work closely with scientists on plant genomics and/or breeding projects examining disease resistance, abiotic stress, genetics, epigenetics, and genomics in barley and/or in model plant systems.
The intent of this process is to staff one full time temporary position: November 1, 2020 to March 31, 2025 (sunset funded).
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures as well as various linguistic requirements.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of plant molecular breeding, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics or a relevant discipline.

Experience conducting research in plant breeding, plant genomics, and molecular plant biology.
Experience in plant science related to biotic and/or abiotic stresses.
Experience collecting, recording compiling and analyzing large breeding and genetic experimental data.
Experience with research methodologies used in laboratory, growth chamber, greenhouse and field.
Experience with next-generation sequencing data and related software.
Documented scientific productivity/recognition in the form of authorship of research results in recognized scientific journals, and published reports, papers, or other communications resulting from scientific research.
Graduate degree in the field of plant molecular breeding, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics or a relevant discipline OR a Master’s degree or PhD in the field of plant molecular breeding, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics or a relevant discipline.

Experience in barley molecular breeding.
Experience in the application of molecular marker systems for barley genetic analyses.
Experience in supervision of students and/or technical support staff.
