Duties

AAFC’s Regional Occupational Health and Safety Coordinators deliver operational health and safety services locally in establishments across Canada and contribute to the development and implementation of hazard prevention program activities at the national level. The incumbent will deliver on the following duties:

• Provide advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, Workplace OHS committees/ OHS Representatives on the implementation of the Hazard Prevention Program and to promote compliance with OHS-related legislation, regulations, policies and directives;
• Collaborate in the identification of hazards and mitigation strategies;
• Deliver OHS-related training within the designated region;
• Monitor implementation of the OHS Program within the designated region and provide feedback to the National OHS Program;
• Work with the Labour Program (Employment and Social Development Canada) in the performance of OHS audits, related activities and coordinate the implementation of recommendations;
• Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of the department’s National OHS Program;
• Travel to each of the AAFC establishments within their region at least twice per year (*subject to COVID-19 restrictions).

Intent of the process

Immediate need:
Staff 4 permanent vacancies in the following locations:

• 1 in the National Capital Region
• 1 in Manitoba (Morden, Brandon or Winnipeg)
• 1 in Saskatchewan (Saskatoon or Swift Current)
• 1 in British Columbia or Alberta (Summerland, BC, Agassiz, BC, or Lethbridge, AB)

We intend to pull submitted applications for the regions with immediate vacancies first.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to fill similar permanent and temporary positions in various AAFC locations across Canada.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Successful completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience providing advice and guidance to management on a range of workplace health and safety issues.

Experience developing occupational health and safety policies, procedures, standards, or guidelines.

**Please note**
For the positions in the Atlantic Region the language requirement is Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC. Positions in the National Capital Region, and Quebec region require Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB.

For the positions in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Alberta, the language requirement is English Essential.

Post-secondary certificate program in Occupational Health and Safety.

Degree equivalency

Experience conducting audits, risk assessments, or management reviews in the context of an occupational health and safety program.

Experience delivering Occupational Health and Safety training.

►PHASE THREE: INTERVIEW

Candidates who succeed in the exam will be invited to a virtual interview where we will assess other competencies.

►PHASE FOUR (if applicable): SECOND LANGUAGE EVALUATIONS

If applicable, Second Language Evaluations will be conducted for bilingual positions as these do require you to have proficiency in both English and French languages.

• If you have valid results, you will be asked to provide them to us.
• If you have never had a SLE or need to be retested (reading or writing) you may be scheduled for testing.
