Leads, supervises and controls the human, financial and materiel resources of a working group that provides installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and disposal services and expertise in support of CCG and DFO for electronics and informatics systems and equipment.
Implements the area installation program for all operational electronics and informatics equipment and systems, by receiving and interpreting installation packages provided by the engineering section, and is responsible for the physical installation and testing of such equipment and systems to prescribed standards.
Participates in the development of technical and/or logistic support solutions to correct actual or latent defects in systems and equipment or deficiencies in maintenance and repair practices.
Provides advice and makes recommendations to supervisors, colleagues and clients on the technical, human and financial feasibility of the maintenance aspect of modification proposals, maintenance and new installation projects for the Workshop.

As a Special Operating Agency of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, CCG is responsible for the safety and accessibility of Canada's oceans and waterways while supporting economic prosperity.
We are a nationally recognized, world-leading symbol of safety, operating along the longest coastline in the world. We are the lead for marine oil spill responses and we work with partners to ensure appropriate responses to incidents. We are also involved in maritime distress monitoring, communication, and search and rescue operations.
The Senior technologist we are looking for will be posted in Iqaluit, Nunavut at the Marine Communication and Traffic Center (MCTS). The MCTS mission is to monitor the safety of seafarers, answer distress calls at sea and continuously coordinate traffic in Canadian waters. To allow MCTS to do this, they have to be able to communicate with seafarers using a lot of specialized equipment located at several telecommunication sites across Nunavut and Northwest Territories. You will support and lead a team of technologists doing the maintenance and installation of new equipment to insure the availability of the mission critical equipment located all across the Arctic .
You will contribute to assure the safety and accessibility of the Arctic Ocean and waterways while supporting economic prosperity.
Responsible for environmental, occupational health and safety practices, compliances and investigations.
Supervises contractors work and performance in compliance to contract conditions.

A secondary school diploma AND the completion of an acceptable training program in electronics technology or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*.
Note:
Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject OR having achieved the Canadian Forces developmental period 3 (DP3) in the field of communication, radar, sonar, or navigational systems.
*Experience means five (5) years of on-the-job technical training and experience in repairs and installation of modems, landlines, navigational, communication, radars and/or sonar equipment
Significant** experience in the maintenance of RF (Radio Frequency) telecommunication equipment AND informatics systems.
Experience planning work involving multi-disciplinary teams.
Experience providing advice and guidance to clients concerning maintenance or installation of equipment.
** Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task, which are normally acquired over a period of approximately (3) years.

Reliability Status security clearance
Valid driver’s license.
Lift objects weighing 20 kg or less.
Work in an operational environment, including the need to work overtime, on weekends and being on standby.
Travel by various modes of transportation (e.g. boat, automobile, plane, helicopter, etc.) and perform work at remote sites and/or on vessels at sea.
Travel for extended periods for general duties and for training purposes. Travel could be required outside the regional area.
Obtain and maintain a Health Canada scientific field III medical.
Not be susceptible to claustrophobia (confined spaces) or fear of heights, climbing towers and ships mast.
