Duties

As one of our Nurse Managers in our dynamic team you will:
• Provide professional support, leadership, advice and direction to nurses on policy, practice and programs.
• Promote a safe, healthy, respectful and learning work environment in the communities where nurses work
• Establish collaborative relationships with provincial/local nurse leaders, professional associations and provincial/private organizations that have a relationship with the provision of health services to First Nation communities.
• Assist in evaluating the efficacy of nursing programming: including health service delivery , professional development, and national policy.
• Represent Regional Nursing program interests on advisory groups, associations and committees as determined by the Manager of Nursing Operations.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders to establish and implement nursing and administration guidelines in the Region.
• Manage the cost centre budget of assigned communities.
• Work in collaboration with the Nurse Educator for Professional Development to coordinate the implementation of education plans for nurses.

Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) is looking to staff Nurse Manager positions in the Regional office to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team.

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) works collaboratively with partners to improve access to high quality services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.

First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Manitoba Region is committed to providing high-quality health care to First Nations people entrusted to our care.

In Manitoba there are 21 remote/isolated First Nation communities. You will occasionally be expected to travel to these communities to connect with the health teams and provide clinical advice, support and consultation.

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) has an interesting and unique mandate by playing a role in supporting services and programs in communities such as health, education, economic development, housing, community infrastructure and social support. In the context of reconciliation, ISC supports Aboriginal peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) in their efforts to improve social well-being and economic prosperity to the benefit of all Canadians.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, employees of Indigenous Services Canada are currently working remotely. The department is actively working on a flexible, phased approach for the safe return of employees to their usual workspaces. Therefore, this opportunity may initially be a remote working opportunity.

Intent of the process

This process will initially be used to staff two temporary positions (Acting, Assignment, Deployment, Secondment, Specified period) located in Winnipeg, MB.

The result of this selection process will be to create a pool of qualified candidates for current and future opportunities (Acting, Assignment, Deployment, Indeterminate, Secondment, Specified period) in various locations at Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution* with an acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.

*Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.

Degree equivalency

Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.

Experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with partners or stakeholders.
Experience in working with First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis.
Experience in providing advice to management.
Experience in the management and allocation of human resources.
Recent* and Significant** experience managing health programs and/or services.

*Recent is described as within the last five (5) years.
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the full time performance of duties for a minimum period of 2 years
