Assessment accommodation

The position is located in Ottawa or Toronto. As a result of the global pandemic, OSFI employees are currently working from home. Should the current telework environment no longer apply, the successful candidate will be required to report to and work onsite from the Ottawa or Toronto office.

Duties

The Senior Officer, Approvals analyzes applications from Federally Regulated Financial Institutions (FRFIs) as well as from applicants wishing to establish operations under the FRFI statutes administered by OSFI and develops recommendations for the Minister of Finance and the Superintendent of Financial Institutions. In carrying out these tasks, the Senior Officer is expected to identify any prudential, legislative or public policy issues that may pertain to the application and maintain working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) is an independent agency of the Government of Canada, established in 1987 to contribute to the safety and soundness of the Canadian financial system. OSFI supervises and regulates federally registered banks and insurers, trust and loan companies, as well as private pension plans subject to federal oversight.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
- A degree* from a recognized university in commerce, business administration, finance, economics, accounting, public administration, actuarial science, law or any other related field.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
- Experience in at least two of the following:
• Conducting financial analysis within the financial services sector.
• Researching and analyzing financial information, business plans or legal agreements related to the financial services sector.
• Developing risk management policies, procedures or guidelines related to the financial services sector.
• Identifying key risks of a financial institution and making recommendations for the mitigation of those risks.
• Assessing compliance to financial sector legislation.
• Providing legal advice or opinions with regards to commercial or financial transactions.

- Experience in writing reports which include recommendations to management.

ASSET EDUCATION

As a Separate Agency, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) appoints employees in accordance with the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). OSFI is named in Schedule V of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and it offers the same pension and benefits plans as the core Federal Public Service. In addition to this, OSFI employees obtain a minimum of 4 weeks of vacation leave per year, earn a competitive salary, and are eligible for an annual performance bonus.
