Are you interested in joining a team focused on collaboration, engagement, and scientific analysis to support the protection and management of aquatic ecosystems?

We are looking for a motivated team player with strong communication and analytical skills to join the Transboundary Water Management Unit of the Regional Director General’s Office, in the West and North region, Pacific and Yukon office. The work will include supporting transboundary aquatic ecosystem health indicator projects: updating and developing aquatic ecosystem indicators; ecosystem data discovery, analysis, reporting and information management; and regional engagement with government and non-governmental environmental organizations. The position will also provide aquatic science support to ECCC engagement on inter-governmental water issues in priority regional river basins, including transboundary river basins.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff a term or indeterminate candidate.

A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various linguistic profiles, security requirements, as well as various tenures within Environment and Climate Change Canada in Vancouver, British Columbia.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position such as physical geography, environmental science, biology.

Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience in planning, coordinating and implementing environmental science projects relating to water and/or aquatic ecosystems.
2. Experience in gathering, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting scientific or technical data related to water and/or aquatic ecosystems.
3. Experience working on multidisciplinary projects, committees, or groups.
4. Experience in the preparation of scientific reports and presentations.

EDUCATION:
A post-graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a water or aquatic ecosystem related science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
1. Experience in environmental indicator development and application to environmental reporting.
2. Experience in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to environmental projects.
3. Experience with environmental issues in the Fraser River Basin, and/or Columbia River Basin, and/or Yukon River Basin, and/or Salish Sea Ecosystem, or other large or transboundary watersheds in western or northern Canada.
4. Experience with water quality and/or ecosystem issues in coastal/marine environments.
5. Experience working with and maintaining effective relations with staff in various levels of government agencies, non-government agencies, or universities.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid BC Driver’s licence (or equivalent).
Ability and willingness to travel.
Ability and willingness to work overtime and on weekends, sometimes at short notice.
