Duties

As a systems analyst, you will participate in the management of Linux computer systems and provide technical advice, along with general computing support, to aid climate modelling and analysis projects as part of CCCma’s scientific program. The work involves maintaining the daily operation of Linux laptops and software on associated servers, including keeping software libraries up-to-date, managing environments on both local and remote systems, and testing and deploying new technologies. This position also involves maintenance and the troubleshooting of local IT and technology problems to facilitate a dynamic and collaborative work environment (WiFi, video conferencing, etc…)

Intent of the process

To staff one indeterminate CS-02 position in ECCC CCCma. A pool may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures (e.g. term, acting, indeterminate, assignment), various language requirements profiles and security.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Computer Science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position (e.g., Computer Engineering).

Degree equivalency

Recent and significant * experience in Linux systems management, which includes supporting Linux system users.

Recent and significant * experience in troubleshooting and maintaining IT hardware.

Recent and significant * experience in programming using interpreted languages (e.g., Python, Bash, other shell languages) and in using high level compiled languages (e.g., Fortran, C, C++, etc.).

*Recent and significant means at least one (1) year within the last five (5) years

Graduation with a M.Sc. degree from a recognized post secondary institution in Computer Science/Engineering, Atmospheric/Ocean/Climate science, or Applied Mathematics/Physics.

Degree equivalency

Experience in supporting local computing infrastructure in a Windows environment.
Experience in a High Performance Computing (HPC) environment.
Experience in software documentation.
Experience with version control (e.g., Git).
Experience in numerical methods.
Experience in numerical modelling.
Experience in climate/atmospheric/ocean modelling.
Experience in working with large datasets.
