Intent of the process

The need is to staff one indeterminate position in Montreal (QC) or in Burlington (ON).

A pool of qualified candidates may be established. This pool may be used to staff identical or similar positions with various language requirements and various security requirements within the Department of Environment and Climate Change Canada across Canada. These positions may be staffed on an indeterminate or temporary basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

► EDUCATION :
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position or directly related to contaminants and-or contamination effects studies.

Degree equivalency

► EXPERIENCES :
• EX1. Recent* and significant** experience in leading (including conceptualizing, planning, and implementing) and reporting on science based programs or multiple simultaneous projects related to aquatic environment.
• EX2. Recent* and significant** in preparing and assessing environmental sciences research proposals, tracking progress and reporting on the outcomes.
• EX3. Recent* and significant** in developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with different stakeholders such as : federal departments, other levels of government, private sector, non-governmental, international organizations, on science based projects related to the environment
• EX4. Recent* and significant** in the management of scientific and technical human resources*** as well as financial and material resources.

* Recent experience means in the past five years.
** Significant experience means an experience that is an integral part of the duties of the candidate over a period of at least 2 years.
*** Human resources management is defined as: candidates must clearly demonstrate that they have performed at least three of the following four functions: supervised staff, assigned work, managed and assessed performance and/or developed staffing plans or contributed to their development. Candidates must also indicate the number of staff they supervised.

• EXA1. Recent* experience in providing advice and recommendations to a Director**** on science related management issues through presentations and/or briefings and/or strategic documents.

****A Director is a third party able to make decisions on authorizing multiple projects and-or programs.

• EXA2. Experience in leading governmental level initiatives and/or working groups – at the federal or provincial level, or in another country, or in an international organization.

N.B.: Based on the hiring division’s needs, additional asset qualifications and operational requirements may be identified and applied during the assessment and/or selection of candidates.

Management may decide to seek all qualified candidates of the pool, at an opportune time, for an update of the evolutionary assets.
