The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff these or similar positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff these positions and/or similar positions on an indeterminate, specified period (term), acting, secondment/assignment, or deployment basis. EDUCATION:
ED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in environmental science and/or engineering or another discipline relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
EX1: Extensive experience* in providing guidance and advice in the application of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) (or its predecessor the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA)), the Fisheries Act (FA), and the Navigation Protection Act (NPA).
EX2: Extensive experience* in completing and supervising studies on the environmental effects of projects under the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) or the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). (i.e. predicting and evaluating a project's environmental impact before it is implemented).

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE:
K1: Knowledge of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA), the Fisheries Act (FA) and the Navigation Protection Act (NPA) when applied to construction projects and marine or port infrastructure rehabilitation.
K2: Knowledge of the fundamental principles of the Crown's obligations with regard to Aboriginal consultations for construction and infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
ABILITIES:
AB1: Ability to manage and coordinate work carried out in multidisciplinary groups.
AB2: Ability to analyze and interpret technical data pertaining to environmental assessment.
AB3: Ability to communicate effectively orally.
AB4: Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Asset Education:
AED1: A master's degree in environmental science and/or engineering.
Asset Experience:
AEX1: Experience giving advice or guidance on Aboriginal consultations.
AEX2: Experience with federal consultation and coordination under the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) or Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA), as well as liaisons with other government bodies.
AEX3: Experience with construction and civil infrastructure rehabilitation projects in marine, coastal or riverine environments.
AEX4: Experience using the federal government's Program Activity Tracking System for Habitat (PATH).
Operational Requirements
• Working evenings and weekends as required, sometimes on short notice
• Travel as required, via automobile, aircraft and/or boat
• Travel to remote locations
• Work in a marine environment
• Travel to national headquarters for national meetings
• Reliability status Security Clearance
• Valid NL provincial driver’s license
