Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), is recruiting an Assistant Nurse Manager to join our dynamic Regional Nursing Team located at the Regional Office, Canada Place, Edmonton. This position will provide support to the Nurse Manager for Alberta Region’s remote and isolated communities.
This position’s primary responsibility will be to provide support to the Nurse Manager for Treaty 8 (North Zone). In addition, the position will provide advice and guidance on nursing program planning to senior management, will develop and plan nursing service delivery in community and participate in the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of new staff. Nursing personnel based in community will report directly to this position. The Assistant Nurse Manager will report to the Nurse Manager for the Treaty 8 (north) area.
The maintenance of Cultural Competence and the provision of culturally safe practice are paramount.
Indigenous Services Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances. The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch at Indigenous Services Canada supports the delivery of primary care, public health, home care and health promotion services on reserve and in Inuit communities. It also provides drug, dental and ancillary health services to First Nations and Inuit people regardless of residence.
Community Description
The Regional Offices are located in downtown Edmonton and are within easy access of St Albert, Leduc, Morinville and Fort Saskatchewan. Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta and has a population of over 1,000,000 people. Alberta’s remote and isolated First Nation communities are in the High Level area which is located approximately 750kms north of Edmonton. Populations in these communities vary from 700 members to greater than 2000 members.

Education:
Graduation with a Degree in nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution.*
*Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs
Occupational Certification:
Eligible for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.
Experience:
*Recent and **significant experience as a Registered Nurse in the area of practice of
Primary Health Care [which includes Primary Care, Community/Public Health, and/or Home Care].
Experience in leadership roles such as leading a project, managing a program, and/or leading a team.
*Recent is defined as within the last 5 years.
**Significant is defined as consisting of at least 3 cumulative years of experience with the candid performing complex activities relating to the provision of Community/Public Health, Home Care and/or Primary Care.

Operational Requirements:
Travel to remote locations on gravel roads or in small aircraft..
Willingness and ability to work overtime occasionally.
Willingness and ability to work overtime in the event of an emergency or outbreak
Security clearance to the Reliability level.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Current and continuous valid registration as a Registered Nurse and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located.
Current CPR Certification, Health Provider Level C (to be renewed annually).
