We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the evaluation process, please use the Contact information below to request specialized accommodation. All information received in relation to accommodation will be kept confidential.
When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.
What is an inventory?
When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory to fill upcoming employment opportunities at the ENG02 group and level within the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Applicants who apply to an inventory process may be referred for one or more opportunities if they meet the needs of the position identified for staffing. Management can decide to access applications at any point so please ensure you submit your application as soon as possible.
How can you apply?
We want to attract top talent. Therefore we are focusing more on your competencies that complement your knowledge.
We are also taking a simplified approach for you to apply to this process. To apply for this process:
• provide your resume (no cover letter needed)
• answer the screening questions
When you apply you will be asked a series of screening questions based on the education and experience criteria below. When answering the screening questions, please provide:
- Concrete and detailed examples to demonstrate how you meet the qualifications;
- Where, when and how the experience was acquired.
We can’t make any assumptions about your experience. Simply saying you have the required qualifications or listing your current duties is not enough. We’ll only use your résumé as a secondary source of information. The depth and breadth of experience of an applicant may be considered as part of screening or selection of a candidate, which is why it is recommended you quantify your experience. The screening questions are the primary source of information the screening board may use and your resume may only be used as a secondary source to verify information.
We will only accept on-line applications received via the Public Service Jobs site. Apart from general inquiries, further documentation and applications emailed to the poster contact will not be accepted. You will only be asked for further documentation if you are contacted for further assessment. If you have a disability or are residing in a location that is preventing you from applying on-line you are asked to contact .
More information about maintaining your application, screening & assessment can be found at the bottom of this advertisement.
Please read this advertisement carefully in order to ensure you provide all the required information.
The CRTC oversees an industry that relies on technology to provide communication services to Canadians and our decision makers need to take technical trends and issues into account. Engineers at the CRTC face the following specific challenges:
• You must be a critical-thinker who is able to provide solid technical advice while always considering the impact of your recommendations on the industry and on Canadians
• You must be able to effectively explain technology to a non-technical audience and present your ideas effectively taking into account the big picture
• You must work well with your colleagues in a fast-paced environment as we are a small, nimble organization that gets things done quickly
Want to join our team?
Start by submitting your résumé and answering the screening questions. In your responses, please provide as much relevant detail as possible.
*Note that we will assess your answers based on your level of experience. For example, a junior engineer may have had some of this type of experience as a co-op student or as part of university assignments.
Are you looking for a career where you have a direct impact on the daily lives of Canadians? Tired of working for a large, stuffy government department? Looking for better work-life balance? The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) may be the place for you. 87% of our employees think that the CRTC is an awesome place to work according to the most recent Public Service Employee Survey results!
Engineers at the CRTC are highly valued experts whose technical knowledge is relied on as the CRTC sets ground breaking policy. Given that the CRTC is a relatively flat organization, their knowledge and analysis is delivered directly to top level decision makers. Further, as a small organization, the CRTC is able to support the development of employees and maintain nimble approval processes.
As part of our role in ensuring that Canadians have access to a world-class communications system, we at the CRTC oversee various services on which we all rely. For example we:
• Work to enhance competition in telecommunications services, such as Internet broadband and mobile wireless services;
• Promote Canadian culture and the development of compelling and diverse content by and for Canadians through the licensing of TV and radio services;
• Regulate the provision of emergency services, such as 9-1-1 and emergency alerting; and
• Work to reduce spam, unsolicited telecommunications and other nuisance communications.
We are looking for engineers with fresh ideas and different levels of experience to help lead Canada into the evolving future of telecommunications and broadcasting.
