The main duties of a plumber are as follows:
• Under the supervision of the technical advisor (operations manager), perform repair, installation and maintenance work (preventive and corrective), inspect plumbing equipment and systems, and detect potential problems, safety risks, malfunctions and breakdowns, while ensuring compliance with applicable codes.
• Repair, modify and install plumbing components.

This position is located in Longueuil Health Canada laboratory. The current plumber has the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic and stimulating team. The Longueuil Laboratory has analytical expertise in several areas related to food safety and drug analysis. This laboratory is a reference and research center on food and drugs whose mandate is to provide quality scientific and technical services in support of the application of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and its regulations as well than other laws administered by the department.
This selection process will be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff positions with permanent or temporary tenures and various security profiles for our offices in Longueuil and Montreal.

EDUCATION
Secondary School Diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Hold a valid journeyman plumber's qualification certificate issued by the Province of Quebec or a valid journeyman plumber's competency certificate issued by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ).
EXPERIENCE
Recent* and significant** experience (see Note 1) in repairing, installing, modifying or maintaining and operating building, plant and laboratory plumbing system components.
Note 1: Experience limited to residential facilities does not count.
* Recent means during the last three years.
** Significant means about five years.

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of plumbing installations.
Knowledge of common techniques for maintaining and installing plumbing equipment and appliances.
Knowledge of the principles governing the operation of plumbing systems for steam, water, vacuum, compressed air, nitrogen and CO2.
Knowledge of safety principles related to the use, handling and storage of chemicals and hazardous materials (WHMIS).

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
1 - Functional knowledge of the Quebec plumbing code.
2 - Experience in repairing or installing glass pipe, polypropylene pipe and stainless steel pipe.
3 - Experience in arc welding and sanitary tig welding.
4 - Diploma of Professional Studies (DEP) in plumbing.
5 - Competency card or operator's certificate for lifting equipment such as cradle and hydraulic scaffolding.
6 - Confined space training.

• Valid driver’s licence.
• Wear required clothing, shoes and safety equipment.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends and on call.
• Be available to work overtime on short notice.
• Be available according to the rotation schedule established with other technicians for service calls outside normal business hours.
