The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position (permanent). A pool of qualified candidates may be created and used to staff similar positions at Defence National Department with various tenures and security and linguistic profiles.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing.
* Designation of degree may differ from one jurisdiction to another but would typically be, at minimum, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N) or a Bachelor of Nursing (B.N.).
REGISTRATION
Current provincial/territorial registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with no practice restrictions, and willingness and eligibility to become registered, at the time of appointment, in the province/territory where the position is located.
EXPERIENCE
Two years recent* experience working with adult clients in a mental health care setting, directly in addictions treatment, performing a broad range of related activities including bio-psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, consultation and referral, and counselling and/or therapy.
* Recent is defined as within the last five years.

ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES
1. Ability to assess substance use disorders and/or gambling disorder and problematic behaviours and provide a clinical impression.
2. Ability to assess concurrent mental health disorder(s) and provide a clinical impression.
3. Ability to recognise and respond effectively when a person with substance use or concurrent disorders presents in crisis and poses a potential risk to self or others.
4. Ability to apply a comprehensive range of evidence-informed counselling styles, techniques, and methodologies in individual and group settings.
5. Ability to develop and update a treatment plan which reflects changes in care and the client’s evolving needs and goals.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY
1. Interpersonal teamwork and cooperation.

EDUCATION
Post-graduate degree or certificate in addiction studies or concurrent mental health and addiction.
CERTIFICATION
Certification with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF).

Continued registration in good standing with the provincial/territorial regulatory body responsible for the profession.
