Ullukkut! We are looking to fill our Assistant Director position in Pilimmaksaivik, the Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut. This is the perfect position for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to lead employees on interesting files – all with the objective of making a difference for Inuit in Nunavut.
Please note, the positon is located in Iqaluit so candidates applying from outside of Iqaluit must be willing to relocate to Iqaluit. Relocation assistance is available.

The salary range for this position is: $94,121 to $107,619 (under review) plus applicable allowances (approximately $22,000/ year to $37,000/year), as well as vacation travel assistance (approximately $1,500 per person (i.e. for employee and eligible dependents, including spouse/common-law partner), twice per year). As noted above, for this selection process, applicants will be considered in the following order:
(1) Those who are Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.
(2) If there are no qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, persons residing in Canada and Canadian citizens residing abroad will be considered.
As the Assistant Director, you would lead a team of employees and manage the development and implementation of the whole-of-government Inuit Employment Plan (IEP), in support of the federal government’s obligations and responsibilities pursuant to Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement. Drawing on your knowledge and understanding of Inuit culture and societal values and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) principles, you would provide expert advice to partners that would help shape the development of Inuit employment strategies. In this role, you would also work closely with federal departments and organizations, Government of Nunavut, NTI, and Inuit clients to manage and develop collaborative initiatives and projects that would support the federal government’s Inuit Employment Plan.

Located in Iqaluit, Pilimmaksaivik was created to support a ‘whole-of-government’ approach (one that works across several federal departments and agencies) to support the Government of Canada build toward achieving a representative public service in Nunavut, including its obligations under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement.
Please note: We have an immediate need to staff one (1) indeterminate position/permanent full time.
We plan to use this staffing process to develop a list of qualified candidates (also called a pool of candidates) for possible future job openings for similar types of position at this level (AS-07). These job openings could be for permanent full-time work or for shorter periods of time, working on a temporary basis (for example, replacing someone on leave). We will also share the names of the qualified candidates on this list with other Federal departments / agencies in Nunavut so they can use it for their job openings.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities. Interchange Canada* may also be used as a staffing option.
Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and or/experience.
EXPERIENCE:
EX1: Experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management (director or above) on program or policy issues.
EX2: Experience coordinating and leading meetings that include individuals from internal and/or external partners (or stakeholders).
EX3: Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit (culture and values) and non-Inuit populations.
EX4: Experience in supervising staff.
EXPERIENCE:
AEX1. Experience working in a Northern environment, preferably Nunavut.
AEX2. Experience in the delivery of training or learning and development programs for adults.
AEX3. Experience in the development and delivery of programs or policies to support increased Indigenous employment levels in a workforce.
