Assessment accommodation

Duties

CanmetENERGY is interested in experimental testing of a CO2 refrigerant-based solar assisted heat pump and evaluating the applicability of such a system in the Canadian housing context. The candidate will be responsible for evaluating, through experimentation, the performance of a CO2 refrigerant-based solar assisted heat pump. The candidate will be required to liaise with other students and build on their work, identify appropriate equipment for testing, devise an experimental setup and monitoring plan, commission and test the system, collect data and report on performance. The candidate will be aided by colleagues at Carleton University as well as at CanmetENERGY-Ottawa throughout the project, but will be expected to play a lead role in moving the project forward. The candidate will produce reports, presentations and academic papers during the course of this work.

Intent of the process

This is a student position for a student completing a Master of Applied Science thesis over a two year period.

To be considered for this Research Affiliate Program opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in a Master of Applied Science thesis over a two year period at Carleton University.
- Be recognized as a student having full-time status (proof will be required).
- Be the minimum age to work in Ontario.

A covering letter in 500 words (maximum) "Candidates should write a one page (maximum) cover letter that outlines their experience and/or course work related to housing construction, HVAC, and thermo-fluids and heat transfer."

Information on language requirements

Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or some other applied science relevant to the duties of the position.

Confirmed enrollment in a Masters of Applied Science program at Carleton University, preferably in Mechanical Engineering. Area of specialization (i.e. thesis topic) in CO2 refrigerant heat pumps and integration with solar assisted.

Degree equivalency

Ability to communicate effectively in writing (will be assessed with covering letter).

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

Knowledge of housing construction and/or HVAC systems

Conditions of employment
