Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff a specified period position within PSPC Pacific Region. The pool may be used to staff permanent or temporary (such as a specified period appointments, indeterminate or casual) Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for assignments, secondments or acting appointments.

Occupational Certification:
Possession of a valid BC Journeyman Electrician's Certificate.

Degree equivalency

Acceptable training and/or experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and systems.
Experience working in an industrial and/or shipyard environment.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of the electrical building trade and federal, provincial and local electrical codes.
Knowledge of electrical installations such as lighting circuits, alarm systems, AC & DC systems, transformers and switch gear.

Ability to use testing equipment and to test and diagnose for electrical defects.
Ability to communicate.
Ability to assess contractor's progress, work quality and estimates.



Conditions of employment
Reliability and Security: Reliability status
Medical suitability.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Required to work shifts, overtime and weekends.
Required to work in confined spaces.
Required to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats and safety footwear.
Able to work on elevated catwalks and cranes.

Class A high voltage certification.
Class B Electrical Certification.

Experience working on electrical drives on level luffing cranes.
Experience working in a shipyard environment.
Experience planning and/or maintaining Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Experience maintaining and/or troubleshooting closed circuit TV systems.
Experience maintaining, installing and/or repairing high voltage equipment.
Experience working with computers.
Experience in rebuilding electric motors.
Experience working on mechanical equipment.
Experience in electrical lockout procedures.
Experience installing, maintaining and testing fiber optic or testing telephone cables and equipment.

Placement of PSPC employees affected by work force adjustment. Placement of employees subject to current or future reorganization.
